- Now I wonder if a nearsighted person swinging a sword is actually more dangerous with or without glasses... (The latter in the sense that said person then would be more prone to causing collateral damage...)
Seb's actually farsighted, but as a (slightly) short sighted person myself... I have no idea XD I'd be inclined to say without either way, I think. In any case, it'd be good for him to get used to not having them sometimes.
If Seb's eyesight is as bad as mine, at least he'll be immune to the majority of intimidating looks from his opponents.
"I'm sorry, are you trying to make any kind of facial expression? Unless you're within six inches of my face, I'm just going to see a blur."
"But at the same time, not being able to see your opponent's eyes can be tricky--their eyeline can help you guess what they're going to do next!" -someone who has sparred without her glasses and got kicked in the head a bunch
Unsure whether Nate is optimistic about how much work he needs to do, or if he's just in shut-down mode and his brain went "I dunno, just smile, that should help, right??"
also if I had to swordfight without my glasses I would absolutely somehow manage to stab myself, so I feel anxious for Seb
XD Each face a win, beginning with Sawbones in panel 3. "Pah, how dare you criticize my blade expertise!"
And Nate. Nate, you lovely dork. I don't get why he's so much less skilled than Seb, though - shouldn't they both have around zero eperience? Or is that just because Nate is so hopelessly clumsy? I guess there must be SOMETHING (fish aside) that he's good at...
And then there's Sebastian's face when Daniel takes his glasses off. "Wah! No! I'm blind without those! And gorgeous! People aren't supposed to notice that I'm gorgeous!"
Praise thee for unbespectacled Sebastian. And also, shame on you for skipping the training sequence completely, I would've loved to see a bit of that.
Well, Seb's good- for a new beginner. Nate often tends to be a bit chaotic, whilst Seb picks things up quite well if he has the determination. This is just the first lesson though, it doesn't mean Nate won't get any better! There are indeed things he's good at/will be good at too, one of them should be more important later.
Fear not- the reason I skipped the training sequence is that there's a wee bit of one after this talking. I thought including both would be too much, though looking back past me could've planned this scene out much better.
Fair is fair I suppose! Plus if I am not mistaken back then glasses were more of a luxury item anyway even among some nobles. If somebody is going to knock off your crutch, so to speak, then you better know how to proceed!
Also, I was under the impression that once a fight breaks out every technique and strategy goes away and you just have a bunch of people charging at each other swinging epees and sabers ;D

Aaaand I really couldn't say which that look is XD Perhaps it's something I'll have to leave up to interpretation!
