It's not an easy thing to come to terms with... I think a lot of media shows people running through mooks without ever being that bothered by it. I suppose Seb's lucky the pirates have thus far been focused on one thing instead of going round plundering.
Kind of lucky because he could have also been in the presence of pirates who would just say that it gets easier after the first time. And pat him on the back.
